Structural studies of lead aluminate glasses
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lead aluminate melts were quenched rapidly with a roller quencher and bulk glasses were formed over a composition range from 72.5 to 80.0 mol% PbO. Pulsed neutron diffraction, Al MAS NMR and Raman spectroscopy were used to study the structure of a series of these glasses. The results show that in the glasses the aluminium is four coordinated by oxygen across the compositional range, with a bond length of about 1.76 Å. The Pb–O peak in the neutron correlation function is asymmetric, and it can be modelled in terms of two bond lengths of 2.25 Å and 2.47 Å, with the majority of the coordination at the shorter distance. There is evidence that most or all of the lead ions are on asymmetric sites, coordinated by three oxygens in a trigonal pyramid arrangement. Both the neutron diffraction and Raman results indicate that the Pb–O bond lengths become shorter with increasing lead content. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Structural Investigation, Physical and Optical Properties of Mixed Alkali Bismuth Borate Glasses
Lead free, eco-friendly bismuth borate glasses doped with alkali oxides of composition xLi2O+(30-x)Na2O+55B2O3+15Bi2O3 (x = 5,10,15,20,25) were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Density measurements were carried out at room temperature by standard principle of Archimedes with Xylene as an immersion liquid. The non-linear ...
متن کاملA hazardous waste from secondary aluminium metallurgy as a new raw material for calcium aluminate glasses.
A solid waste coming from the secondary aluminium industry was successfully vitrified in the ternary CaO-Al(2)O(3)-SiO(2) system at 1500 degrees C. This waste is a complex material which is considered hazardous because of its behaviour in the presence of water or moisture. In these conditions, the dust can generate gases such as H(2), NH(3), CH(4), H(2)S, along with heat and potential aluminoth...
متن کاملPreparation and Studies of Structural and Thermo-mechanical Aspects of Some Special Glasses and Glass-ceramics
Glasses and glass-ceramics (GCs) used for sealing, coating and high voltage applications belong to a special class of materials in which among other requirements, matching of thermal expansion coefficient with that of metal as closely as possible up to set temperature is an important consideration. In this paper I shall concentrate on some indigenous efforts carried out in my laboratory on the ...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Structural and Optical Properties of GeO2-PbO Glasses
The structural and optical characterization of bulk GeO2-PbO glasses was the goal of this study. In this regard, six different (100-x)GeO2-xPbO (15<x<45) glasses were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique between two steel sheets. The produced samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis s...

Borosilicate BK7 glasses doped with different amounts of CeO2 (0.5,1,1.5%) were prepared by the convenient melting process in this work. DTA analysis proved that 0.5-1% CeO2 has a network modifier role and then up to 1.5% it shows network former role. For structural studies, FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy were carried out. Fermi energy level, direct/ indirect optical band gap and Urbach energy wer...
